Chapter: Ch1 Computer Intro

🎨 1️⃣ Creating and Using Master Slide

The Master Slide defines the common layout, background, and formatting for all slides in your presentation. It ensures consistency across your presentation and saves time while designing multiple slides.

Steps to Create or Modify a Master Slide:

  1. Go to View → Master Slide or press Ctrl + Shift + M.
  2. Customize background, fonts, logos, or placeholders.
  3. Add header or footer elements like date, time, or slide numbers.
  4. Exit Master View by clicking Close Master View.

Tip: Changes made in the master slide are automatically applied to all slides using that master.

🖥️ 2️⃣ Presentation of Slides

Once your slides are ready, you can prepare them for presentation using various view modes and layout settings.

  • Normal View: Used for editing individual slides.
  • Outline View: Shows slide text in structured format.
  • Slide Sorter View: Displays all slides as thumbnails to arrange or remove slides.
  • Notes View: Add speaker notes for each slide.

Shortcut: Switch to Slide Sorter View with Ctrl + Shift + 3.

🎬 3️⃣ Running a Slide Show

LibreOffice Impress allows you to display your slides in full-screen slideshow mode for audience presentation.

  • Start from First Slide: Press F5 or go to Slide Show → Start from First Slide.
  • Start from Current Slide: Press Shift + F5.
  • End Slide Show: Press Esc.
  • Advance Slide: Click mouse or press (Right Arrow).
  • Previous Slide: Press (Left Arrow).

You can also use the Slide Show Toolbar for on-screen navigation and laser pointer tools.

⏱️ 4️⃣ Transition and Slide Timings

Slide transitions add visual effects when moving from one slide to another, while timings control how long each slide stays visible.

  1. Go to Slide → Slide Transition.
  2. Choose a transition effect (e.g., Fade, Wipe, Push).
  3. Set Duration and Advance Slide options:
    • On mouse click
    • Automatically after (set time in seconds)
  4. Click Apply to All Slides for uniform transitions.

Tip: Use subtle transitions for professional presentations — too many effects can distract the audience.

🎞️ 5️⃣ Automating Slide Show and Animations

You can make your presentation automatic by setting animation timings and using custom animation effects.

  1. Select an object (text, image, shape).
  2. Go to Slide Show → Custom Animation.
  3. Click Add → Choose an animation (e.g., Fly In, Fade In, Zoom).
  4. Set animation start: On Click, With Previous, or After Previous.
  5. Adjust Speed and Delay for timing control.

To make the entire slideshow run automatically:

  • Go to Slide Show → Slide Show Settings.
  • Select Auto and set the delay between slides.
  • Use Rehearse Timings to preview and record automatic durations.

Shortcut: Shift + F5 — start automatic show from the current slide.
